Number of people testing positive for COVID climbs by nearly 300 in two days

December 27, 2021

Lambton Public Health is reporting 298 new cases of COVID-19 over the past two days.

The health unit did not report the number of people who had tested positive over Christmas and Boxing Day.

The rapid increase in the number of people with COVID-19 is similar to what is happening around Ontario. For the first time during the pandemic, Ontario reported 10,412 people COVIDhad tested COVID-19 positive Sunday. Today, the province is reporting another 9,418 cases.

The growth of the virus is being fuelled by the Omicron variant which is easily transmitted.

The scientific community is carefully watching the number of people becoming seriously ill and need hospitalization. Right now, 480 people are in hospitals across the province with COVID-19 – 176 are in the intensive care unit.

In Lambton there are now 503 people who are ill with the virus. There are 14 people in Bluewater Health with the virus.
