Squires down two games in playoff series against Ripley

A power play goal late in the second period ended a Squires comeback and propelled Ripley to a 9-4 win over Petrolia in the midwestern Ontario community on Sunday and a 2-0 lead in the Western Ontario Athletic Association senior quarter final series.

Petrolia rallied from a 4-0 deficit on goals by Brendon Merritt, Adam Arsenault and Curtis Helps to cut the gap to one goal before the home scored on the man advantage with less than two minutes to play in the second period. Isaac McLean added a third period tally for the Squires. Connor McKinlay took the goaltending loss.

In the opener on Saturday at Greenwood, Ripley broke open a 1-1 game after 20 minutes with a pair of unanswered goals in the second period and three more early in the third. McLean had Petrolia’s lone goal. Brandon Campbell was the losing goalie.

Game three is scheduled for Ripley on Friday with the Squires hosting the fourth game Saturday at 7:30.
