Pinery part of plan to increase EV charging stations
July 3, 2024
The provincial government wants to put an electric vehicle charging station at Pinery Provincial Park in Lambton Shores.
It’s one of 15 underserviced and remote areas the province is planning to install the charging stations. Most are in the far north but some will be in provincial parks, like Pinery. “We’re increasing access to electric vehicle charging stations – particularly in rural and northern communities – so we can help more drivers go electric with confidence,” said Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria in a news release.
The province is accepting bids to build and operate publicly accessible charging stations on government-owned property with the first EV chargers expected to be ready for use in 2025.
The EV ChargeON program is investing $91 million to increase access EV chargers in small, rural and Indigenous communities. Currently, there are about 3,550 public EV charging stations with about 9,600 ports for vehicles to plug into.
