December 29, 2024

Petrolia punched its ticket to the U18B championship with a 3-2 win over Mooretown.

Jacksen Maniuk put the Oilers on the board at the 7:56 mark of the first period Sunday. The Flags responded with two in the second; the first, a shorthanded goal by Jace Burgess on a pass from Lucas Ross. Oden Lajoie scored four minutes later with an assist from Graeme Hazzard.

Just over a minute later, Lucas Johnson tied it up for the Oilers. Tayt Stonehouse had the assist.

With just two-and-a-half minutes left in the hard-hitting third period, Mooretown’s Ethan Rosseel took a roughing minor. Petrolia’s Tristan McKichan fed the puck to Nathan Reidhead who scored the game winning, power play goal, 33 seconds into the penalty.

The Oilers now take on the Lambton Shores Predators in the final.

The Preds punched their ticket with a 3-0 win over Ilderton. Hunter Oulds had two unassisted goals – one in the first, the other in the third – to power Lambton Shores to the win. Kayden McKenzie scored the Predators other goal. Brennan Stanlake had the assist.

The final is Monday at 5 pm at the Greenwood Recreation Centre.
