Grant wins gold at track nationals

James Grant can add another notch his track and field resume; national champion.
Grant, an LCCVI student, won the U18 1500 metre final at the Canadian Legion Track and Field Championship in Calgary on the weekend
Grant, from Petrolia, crossed the finish line in 3:57.39, a second and a half ahead of runner-up Chase Capes of Sarnia. Grant was also seventh in the 800 metre final.
He wasn’t the only Lambton athlete to win gold. Duncan Smith – who is part of the Sarnia Athletics Southwest Club with Grant – was tops in the under-18 700 gram javelin event.Smith’s threw of 62.18 metres in the U18 700 gram javelin was the best throw in his age group anywhere in Canada this season, eclipsing the previous mark by more than a metre.
Several other Sarnia Athletics Southwest athletes are had top ten finishes at the national event.
Mikian Teao and Sophie Smith were seventh respectively in the under-16 shot put and javelin, Tucker Ysebaert was ninth in the under-16 discus and Lily Odolphy was tenth in the under-18 100 metre final. Skarlit Worton was ninth in the heptathlon, including a second place finish in the 100 metre hurdles and third in the 200 metre race.
