In his junior hockey days with the Sarnia Legionnaires and London Nationals, Ty Moffatt never recorded a multi-goal game. The Watford native put that stat to rest in a big way Saturday scoring four times, leading the Petrolia Flyers to a 9-3 win over the Irish in Lucan.

Petrolia scored six times in the third period, including four in the final nine minutes to break open a 3-3 tie.

Jace McGrail scored two of Petrolia’s four power play tallies with one each going to Cameron Davidson, Lucas Rogers and Ethan Flintoff; the latter also had two assists.

Andrew Jaques and Noah Harse each had three helpers while Joey Hayter contributed two assists for the winning side.

Tyler Strain improved his record in the crease to 3-3 for the Flyers blocking 28 shots.

At home Oct. 23, first period goals by Isaac Truman, Parker Davidson and Jaques led the Flyers to a 5-1 win over Lucan. Cameron Davidson and Rhett Joy also scored for the winners.

Flintoff registered three assists in his first game of the season. Tobias Iantorno and Rogers each had two helpers for the Flyers.

Theron Morningstar made his first start for Petrolia since being acquired on loan from the Strathroy Rockets. He made 15 saves as the home team outshot the Irish, 50-16.

Petrolia hosts Exeter on Thursday night at Greenwood at 7:30. The Flyers take on the Sailors in Port Stanley Saturday.
