Oil Springs officials say Enniskillen should be paying more for the administration of the local fire department. But the suggestion is not going over well.
“It was kind of like talking to that wall,” said Oil Springs Councillor Larry Wagner, as he described the reaction he got when he suggested that the Village of Oil Springs be compensated for the administrative work its staff does for the Oil Springs and South Enniskillen Fire Department.
“I thought Enniskillen should be paying a little more than its fair share,” said Wagner, in a verbal report to council at its Jan. 13 meeting.
The Village of Oil Springs has currently taken on the administrative duties for the fire department.
“I wasn’t talking we needed $5,000 or $10,000,” said Oil Springs Clerk Martha Gawley, saying there was discussion about building something into the fire board’s budget for this year.
Enniskillen Township currently covers 78 percent of the cost for the Oil Springs and South Enniskillen Fire Department, with the Village of Oil Springs covering the rest.
