Dale Hunter’s London Knights took fourth place and home ice in round one of the postseason when Jack Nesbitt and the Windsor Spitfires beat the Greyhounds, 5-3 in the Soo on the final day of the regular season.
Nesbitt, the Philadelphia Flyers first round pick last summer, with family ties to Petrolia and Alvinston, had a hat trick for the Spits.
The Knights and Greyhounds, meeting for the first time in the postseason since 2007, will drop the puck in London on Friday.
The other Western Conference match-ups in the opening round of the second season are Windsor taking on Guelph, Flint skating against Owen Sound and Saginaw vs. Kitchener.
In the east, two players with family ties to Petrolia will make their playoff debut.
Eamon Edgar and the Barrie Colts play Niagara IceDogs Thursday. Ex London Knight, Krys Barch of Grand Bend is the head coach of the Ice Dogs.
And Matthew Henderson and his Kingston Frontenacs play the Ottawa 67’s on Friday.
