LCCVI getting ready for drive by graduation

June 11, 2021

LCCVI students won’t have a traditional graduation this pandemic year, but they’ll be dressed in caps and gowns anyway.

Last week, Premier Doug Ford said the province would allow outdoor graduations for every class. The province sent out health guidance for the events Friday which said, in the case of high schools, only home room classes would graduate in a ceremony together. It also ruled out any reception or the wearing of caps and gowns.

Many schools, including LCCVI, said word of the option to hold an outdoor event came too late and planning the event on such short notice would be impossible.

LCCVI had already been working on a way to honour the graduates. Principal Greg Nemcek says they’re planning a drive-by graduation ceremony Tuesday and Wednesday next week for the Class of 2021.

Students who have completed at least 28 credits for the diploma will drive into the school parking lot and then walk across the stage at an allotted time to receive their diploma and get some pictures of the milestone event.

The sign up times are Tuesday June 15 and Wednesday June 16 between 1pm and 7:45pm both nights.  Sign up for Grad time slot through the Signup Genius link:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0F49A5AB23A6FE3-lccvi6  You can also find the information at the school’s website. You can call the school at 519-882-1910 if you have questions.
