External investigation into Plympton-Wyoming administrators underway says mayor

March 17, 2023

Plympton-Wyoming Mayor Gary Atkinson says there is an external body investigating as two of the town’s top administrators are on leave.

Fire Chief Darryl Thompson is on administrative leave and Chief Administrative Officer Carolyn Tripp is on medical leave.

Both went on leave in mid-February. Council held a special in camera meeting Feb. 15 to deal with the issue but at the time, the mayor wouldn’t confirm any details around the reasons for their leaves at that time.

Tuesday, Atkinson confirmed there was an investigation going on by an outside firm, however he would not say if it was being done by a legal or human resources firm.

Atkinson added Chief Scott Jordon has been named the Acting Chief in Thompson’s absence. The mayor says under fire regulations it is necessary to name an acting chief. The town also named temporary members to the Emergency Coordinator role.

It’s not clear how long Thompson will remain on administrative leave, nor could Atkinson say if the investigation was complete or how long it would be before details surrounding the administrators leaves would be made public.
