Fewer homes built in Sarnia-Lambton in 2024

The number of new homes built in Lambton County in 2024 was down about 2.4 per cent from the year before, but the over all value of construction jumped $47.4 million.
That from statistics released by the County of Lambton.
The county takes care of planning matters in all municipalities except Sarnia and Lambton Shores.
Across the county, there was $380,121,105 in construction in 2024 compared to $332,718,642 the year before. That includes residential, commercial, industrial and institutional building projects.
In 2024, there were all 623 residential units built in all of Lambton County – including homes and apartments – according to statistics from the county.
Sarnia had the most residential units completed at 199 in the calendar year – 27 more than 2023. That beats the provincial target set for the city as it tries to build 150,000 homes per year. In 2024, the province says about 87,000 homes were built.
Home growth was also steady in Lambton Shores where nine more homes were built – 37 more units in all.
In the rest of Lambton, there were 51 fewer residential building permits issued and there was $26.6 million less in residential construction.
And there were 71 fewer building permits over all in the rural communities in 2024 than in 2023. However, the value of agricultural and institutional projects jumped $25.8 million to $55.7 million.
