Oil Spring’s Ollie whispers his prediction of six more weeks of winter to Mayor Ian Veen.

Oil Springs Ollie’s may be lovable, but he’s not very popular right now.

Ollie’s first foray as a weather forecaster ended with a verdict on winter that didn’t satisfy the crowd which gathered to see him.

Mayor Ian Veen leaned in close to the weather-predicting groundhog early Sunday morning – Groundhog Day – and announced: “It is proclaimed Here, in the Village of Oil Springs, there will be six more weeks of winter!”

And the winter-weary crowd of about 200 squeezed in around car-high snow banks and standing in slush groaned.

Ollie will have a chance to redeem himself next year, as the village plans to make this an annual event.
