Fire department looking for hot video on smoke detectors

Petrolia/Enniskillen contest winner
claims $500 for one-minute video
The Petrolia Enniskillen Fire Department is looking for help to spread the word about putting smoke detectors in bedrooms.
It’s holding its second Fire Prevention Video Contest with the theme of “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep.”
Deputy Fire Chief Tim Williams says current law says there has to be a smoke detector on every level of the house and near sleeping quarters. But fire chiefs across Canada increasingly are asking families to put the detectors right in bedrooms. “We should really have them in the sleeping area in case the fire starts there,” he says.
So, this year, the department’s video competition will ask people to focus on the idea of Hear the Beep Where You Sleep.
Williams says last year’s video was used in classroom presentations and was “very effective.” He’s hoping this years entries will do the same.
The contest is open to all Petrolia and North Enniskillen residents and the first prize is $500. You’re asked to submit your one-minute video to contact@petroliafire.ca by Sept. 30.
