PW Fair, Art in the Park cancelled for 2021

April 8, 2021

At least two major events have cancelled their summer festivals.

The Plympton-Wyoming Agricultural Society announced Thursday via social media the 174th Annual Fair has been cancelled.

Members of the board of directors say the “uncertainty of when the government will allow festival type events to resume,” was one of the major concerns. And, the board says, it’s not the right time to ask businesses to support the fair financially.

“We cannot in good conscious ask sponsors for support in these financially stressful times when many of them have been closed.”

The board also cited the “ongoing use of the fairgrounds as a vaccination center for rural Lambton County.

“We felt it was the right thing to do.”

The organizers of one of the largest outdoor art shows in the region – Petrolia’s Art in the Park – have also cancelled the event which was slated for July 9 and 10.

It will be the second year the events will be sidelined because of the pandemic.
