Lambton Rural Childcare will get to stay in Brooke-Alvinston for the summer.
The child care centre at Brooke Public School with 85 students was in a bind after being told by the Lambton-Kent District School Board they’d have to move out of the building for the summer.
The board is in the middle of a roof repair. In December, the board shuffled the students at the school to other buildings after engineers said the roof would not withstand a large snow load.
It was thought the newer part of the building, which the child care centre operates out of, would not need extensive repairs. But that changed when the board said a sprinkler system would be needed and the repairs would stretch into the summer.
Lori Veroude, the executive director of Lambton Rural Childcare, came to Brooke-Alvinston council hoping to rent the Brooke-Inwood-Alvinston Community Centre for the summer.
April 27, council gave approval for the move. Clerk Administrator Janet Denkers says details of the arrangement are still being worked out since two events were already scheduled for the space.
The child care centre will be paying $203 per day to use both the auditorium and the upper room until the repairs at the school are complete, says Denkers.
