July 18, 2024
A Petrolia hockey player will be honoured by the The Sarnia Lambton Sports Hall of Fame.
Brayden Kominek and Hunter Boucher have been named co-winners of the Pappy Burr Award, which goes to outstanding students about to enter post secondary education.

Kominek, a LCCVI graduate, also achieved high academic marks while participating in hockey, cross country and track and field. He has been a member of the Lambton Jr Sting AAA club for three years and was a leader on the LCCVI Boys Hockey Team which went to OFSSA in both 2023 and 2024.
Kominek is also active in his community; he has been a volunteer for Lambton County Development Services, as well as helping out with minor sports.
Kominek is not the only Petrolia hockey player to be honoured at the Hall of Fame awards this year. The Sports Hall of Fame previously announced Todd Bidner would be enshrined to the Hall this year.

Bidner was was playing with the OHL’s Toronto Marlboros when he was drafted by the Washington Captials in 1981. He played 12 games in the National Hockey League with the Washington Capitals during the 1981–82 season. The rest of his career was mainly spent in the British Hockey League.
Bidner then moved to coaching with the London Knights in 2006 and later to the Fayetteville FireAntz. Bidner is still involved in hockey, running hockey camps in Lambton County.
Katie Rivait has been named a co-winner with Daniel Robar of the Joe DeRush Award, which is for athletes with disabilities.
John Girard has won the Rose Hodgson Award for outstanding contributions to the community.
Girard was an educator for the local Catholic school board from 1981 to 2011 mentoring thousands of young people in and out of the classroom as a coach and convener of football and wrestling. He is one of the original coaches of the Sarnia Amateur Wrestling Club founded by Bill McNamara.
The enshrinement dinner will be held October 19
