The provincial government is stepping up to help pay for renovations to Wyoming’s outdoor pool.

In July, Plympton-Wyoming’s Director of Public Works Paul da Silva told council the pool needed hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs before opening in 2026.

The town had been planning to upgrade the pool and had previously set aside $243,000 for the project. But Hollandia Pools offered to fully repair all the issues at the pool for $470,000.

da Silva said the town applied for an Ontario Community Recreation Infrastructure Grant in 2025 for the repairs but had been turned down. Council decided to move ahead with the work anyway and started looking for an extra $196,600, including in its own reserves.

Thursday, Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey announced the province would provide $194,000 for the project. “Investing in the McKay Park Pool means that families and residents in the community will continue to be able to enjoy summer recreation and fitness activities at the pool for years to come,” he said in a news release.

Work on the project began in the fall and is expected to be complete in time for summer operation.
