The Petrolia Flyers will not defend their PJHL Yeck Division championship.

Petrolia’s season came to a close with a 7-1 loss to Mt. Brydges before a crowd of 289 fans in Petrolia Sunday.

The Bulldogs won the first round series in five games.

Mt. Brydges had period leads of 1-0 and 4-0 and increased their advantage to 7-0 in the final period before Cameron Davidson connected on a power play late in the game.

Sarnia’s JJ Fogarty had a goal and an assist for Mt. Brydges and was virtually a one-man wrecking crew with eight goals and 13 points in the five postseason games.

Ethan Everaert started the game but was replaced by Ben Kraft after allowing three goals on eight shots. Kraft made 21 stops.

Saturday, the hometown Bulldogs peppered Everaert and Kraft with 53 shots in an 8-2 win. Tobias Iantorno and Ty Moffatt scored for the Flyers.

Feb. 26, before a season-high crowd of 415 fans, the Flyers bounced the Bulldogs, 9-3 for the lone victory of the series.

Andrew Jaques and Cameron Davidson led Petrolia with two goals and an assist each. Iantorno, Parker Davidson, Isaac Truman, Logan Crummy and Noel Sanderson also scored the Flyers.  Lucas Rogers and Ryan Nichols each had three assists while Joey Hayter contributed two helpers. Kraft made 30 saves in his first start of the postseason.

Meantime, Flyer teammates Jace McGrail and Truman have been chosen as defenceman and rookie of the year in the Yeck Division.

McGrail had 16 goals and 52 points in 43 games this season after joining the Flyers following playing parts of four seasons with the Sarnia Legionnaires.

Signing with his hometown team this season after two seasons of playing prep hockey in the U.S., Truman recorded 21 goals and added 36 assists for 57 points in 40 games.

In a social media post Monday, the Flyers thanked the players, coaches, staff, volunteers and fans. “To the player moving on, we wish you nothing but the best and thank you for the positive impact you have left on the team and the community.”
