Two face drug and weapon charges after vehicle evades RIDE check

Two people – one from Welland, the other from Calgary – are facing a string of drug and weapon charges after OPP tracked down a vehicle that blew through a RIDE Check on Hagerty Road.

OPP set up the RIDE Check in Southwest Middlesex. Around 10:15 pm, a vehicle came to the checkpoint, but didn’t stop. Officers patrolled the area and later found the vehicle partially in the ditch on Cameron Road in Lambton. Police said they saw one person discarding something not far from the scene of the collision.

The Canine Unit was called in to search the area and found a loaded handgun and drugs.

Police have charged Temitayo Akindunni, 35, of Welland with six weapons charges, and possession of cocaine, methamphetamine and opioids for the purpose of trafficking.

Haily-Ann Leeson, 20, of Calgary faces four weapons charges and six drug charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking opioids, methamphetamines and cocaine.

The pair have been held in custody for a bail hearing.

Temitayo AKINDUNNI has been charged under the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
  • Carry Firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Poss of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order (two counts)
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Careless driving

Haily-Ann LEESON has been charged under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with:
